The campers started arriving on Wednesday and by mid-day Saturday visitors were the parking down the access road. The flying started shortly after our 9 am pilots meeting with rarely fewer than four aircraft in the air until rain showers started just before noon. We gathered under the huge shelter at the KRCM field to have some barbecued burgers and tell each other tall tales. When the rain finally stopped just after 1 pm we scrambled out onto the field to capture the group photo above.
The rest of the day was steadily filled with flying from all skills of pilots and once again no midair mishaps. The flight line traffic bosses made of volunteer pilots did an outstanding job of keeping the flight line organised watching that pilots followed the proper traffic pattern.
At 4:30 we did the closing ceremonies for the day and started the pilot draws for prizes.
We offered an incentive to register early, and this year’s prize was a gorgeous Pilot RC 31% (60cc) Edge 540 in the Red Bull racing Hamilton scheme ARF (Thanks AMR-RC). This helps us pre-process registrations, guaranteeing an event T-shirt in the pilot's selected size and lets them just pick up their package on arrival.
Our Saturday evening dinner was once again catered by the Kingston RC Modelers with a feast of slow-smoked pulled-pork, BBQ chicken, corn on the cob, baked potato, plus salads and cake. We had some unplanned dinner time entertainment when a reproduction Fokker DR1 from the nearby Kingston Ultralight club made a show pass before the band, Anything Goes started playing for the evening.
Our sponsors make this event what it is and allowed us to give away thousands in prizes.
In an environment of increasing competition for event sponsorship, we are so grateful for our sponsors like Aircraft Modeler's Research and Great Hobbies who provided ARF kits and other goodies. Ottawa Fastener Supply helped out with T-shirts. Altecare RC supplied Hysol and Tru-Turn Spinners, and Boca Bearings provided products and discounts, while RTL Fasteners provided sample packs. Flight line banners for our major sponsors remind all participants where our support comes from.
Special Prize Winners
I want to thank all the pilots for attending and making this the premier event that it has become. I also want to thank all the volunteers that helped out to bring this event together.
Please mark your calendars for next year, two weekends before Labour Day on August 15 - 16 / 2020 so we can do it all over again.
